She’s in hot pursuit of my toes. Toes are her new fascination, along with talking :)

It has been a week of big changes! Last Friday, Lily turned 9 months old. Since then, another tooth has poked through (she now has her two front teeth), she started saying “babababa,” she began pulling herself up on things (like the bottom step- time to get baby gates!), and she STARTED CRAWLING!!! Okay, so she’s technically been crawling for awhile now (I read that anything with forward motion is considered crawling) but two days ago she started doing the classic hands-and-knees crawl. It was such a neat experience watching her figure it out! Oh, and on a more minor note, she finally took a liking to avocado. It’s a great food for babies because it’s got so many nutrients, so I’m excited about that!

She also visited the doctor yesterday for her 9-month checkup. They admitted her last height measure was probably wrong (babies are squirmy), as she’s only in the 70% for height now at 28-inches. (She’ll still be tall, just not Amazonian-woman-WNBA-player tall). She now weighs 19.5 lbs, around the 70% as well. I can’t believe how fast she’s growing up!

I just have to say that the past 9 months have been immeasurably more enjoyable than the 9 months before Lily was born :)

Little Explorer

I wanted to get some more “bear” pictures over by the sliding glass door where the sunlight was coming through. Unfortunately, our little explorer was through with sitting still at that point. Oh well, I got a couple of good shots anyway!

With the exception of her first bath when she cried the entire time (she was hungry), Lily always loves her bathtime. Thinking we had a little fish on our hands, we recently took her to the pool for the first time. It turns out she’s a little California girl– she does NOT like cold water!

Babies definitely have distinct, unique personalities that are all their own. Lily is no exception with her very particular likes and dislikes of solid foods. It’s so funny to watch her little face pucker as she tries a new food she doesn’t like, or reach for the spoon if she does (she likes to feed herself; she’s very independent). What’s even funnier is the choices she has made so far:

Lily Likes:

  • pureed carrots
  • pureed sweet potato
  • plum (whole)
  • cantaloupe (whole)
  • chard (cut up into very small leafy pieces)
  • crusty bread (mostly for teething)
  • vegetable puffs
  • broccoli, ground in a food mill

Lily DOESN’T Like:

  • pureed apples, bananas, peaches (or any kind of fruit)
  • rice or oatmeal cereal
  • yogurt
  • mashed sweet potato
  • mashed banana
  • anything else pureed

Here’s a picture of Lily’s first taste of plum (she ate almost the whole thing!)

Travel Sized

We recently purchased this travel booster seat for Lily. We wanted something to take to restaurants to avoid using those grimy, uncomfortable high chairs (half the time they don’t have any restraint system either). It folds up to the size of a lunch box and it will be great for trips! Lily was kind enough to model it for us :)

All By Herself

I put Lily down in her crib today (on her stomach) and left to wash my hands. When I came back, she was sitting up! (Why do these things always happen when I’m not looking?) She’s been eying those elephants on her mobile for quite some time now. She was very excited about being able to touch them. Unfortunately for her, we’re going to be lowering her crib tomorrow, so her satisfaction will be short-lived :)
